Defense

Turning range into outs with faster transfers

Why our middle infielders spend more time on footwork and transfer speed than on pure range drills.

Turning range into outs with faster transfers

Range gets a player to the ball. Transfer speed is what turns that range into an out on the scoreboard. Our middle infield group trains both, but the daily emphasis is on cutting fractions of a second out of the glove-to-hand exchange.

Coaches run a rotation of angle feeds — slow rollers, in-between hops, backhand plants — and grade every rep on footwork before the throw, not just arm strength. A clean transfer from a bad angle beats a strong arm from a rushed one every time.

The result is a defense that turns borderline plays into routine ones, which is exactly what keeps a pitcher's pitch count down deep into tournament weekends.
